Nastar / Indonesian Pineapple Cookies


Nastar or Indonesian Pineapple Cookies is a mouth watering pastry wrapped in home cooked pineapple jam that would melt smoothly in your mouth.

Nastar is well-known cookie in Indonesia. This cookie is a must to make for many Indonesians during the holiday season either Idul Fitri or Christmas.

I remember my mom always make these cookies for Christmas. When she made them, she didn't make just a few but several dozen. My Mom's Nastar is the most favourite cookies in our family.

Kaastengels are traditional baked treats from Netherlands. Kaastengels are basically shortbread cookie bars with cheese flavor. The types of cheese usually picked for Kaastengels are Edam or Gouda. Elaborate Kaastengels are made with tasty salted butter, glazed with egg yolks, and sprinkled with grated cheddar cheese.

Jemblem / Misro / Pulung-pulung Ubi (Indonesian Cassava Fritters Stuffed with Palm Sugar)


There are 3 different names for this cassava fritters stufed with palm sugar. Javanes knows as jemblem while Sundanese (West of Java) calls it misro (amis di jero -meaning sweet inside) and the Balinese calls it pulung-pulung ubi.

Cassava, also called yuca or manioc. There are two names for cassava in Bahasa Indonesia; Singkong and Ubi Kayu.
